Picking up this movie I did not have high expectations (even from Meryl Streep). It is shown as 2 simultaneous stories that never cross paths. Both are based on true stories at of each other's books.
One is about Julia Child's start into cooking with being bored in Paris. The other is Julie Powell who is a government employee that speaks to 9-11 victims over the phone and is looking to accomplish something in her life. So she decides to tackle Julia Childs cookbook "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" in one year and write a blog about it. (funny I am writing a blog on a movie where the character writes a blog...nevermind) Why Julia Child's cookbook? Because Julie has always admired her and her cooking and even tries to be like her in other aspects of her life.
The movie does take a look at Julia Child beyond just the cook, she is actually quite a character. She even admitts that the only thing she really likes to do is "eat...eat a lot". Well said Julia well said.
The movie tries desperately to be a romantic and it falls short miserably.
Overall the movie is cute and worth watching...if on TV. Not worth the $4.49 to rent it. One of those you've seen it once and that's enough.
OK

Your side comments are really funny. This one doesn't sound like any high drama, ...or low drama for that matter.
We decree that we shall skip it.
